Central Library

The Central Library at NIT Calicut is a leading technical library in South India, reflecting its rich heritage since the institution’s founding in 1961. Spanning an expansive 11,340 square meters, the library houses an impressive collection of over 1,35,000+ technical and scientific volumes. It serves as an essential hub for the academic and research activities of the institute, supporting a diverse community of students, faculty, and researchers.

The library's services are fully automated, ensuring that its extensive collection is accessible both on and off campus via Remote Access Service. It is equipped with modern facilities and resources and can accommodate nearly 500 users simultaneously.

The philosophy guiding the library is to facilitate the free dissemination of knowledge, adopting a need-based approach to service rather than the typical rules-based system prevalent in many academic settings. This user-centric approach is supported by comprehensive automation using KOHA library management software for campus-wide accessibility and RFID technology for efficient circulation services.
